My Favourite/Best Ever Black Leggings Ranked
Hey guys, welcome back! I haven't been blogging because well - life. Let's get this boring introduction out of the way and dive in! I honestly have been living in my various pairs of black leggings *cue activewear song*, so I wanted to let you in on the pros/cons too. Enjoy :)
*FYI I get no money from this whatsoever, completely honest reviews*
Here's the TL;DR:
Maia Active leggings in MEAVEN (RMB$419)
Rising Lotus On the go leggings (HK$580)
Cotton On Body leggings in general (~HK200ish)
Read on for the why...
Lululemon Wunder Under 7/8 tights Full-on Luxtreme (HK$880)
You know they always say that Lulu is essentially a cult? While I wholeheartedly agree, I also would be the first to join the said cult. This is really because their fabric is absolutely unparalleled in terms of hand-feel and performance. The fabric is not too thick, feels like second-skin and hugs you, but isn't too tight or too loose. It just isn't too-anything.
Obviously, all mentioned are great in terms of performance, but this one hasn't wrinkled, shape-shifted or gotten loose after several washes. For all intents and purposes, it is as good as the first day I bought it. And that is also why I now will have anyone faring from Canada to bring back a pair for me. OH, and the length is PERFECT for a 5"3 girl like me too, hitting just above the ankle with NO bunching. I <3 this pair of leggings to the core.
Pros: Everything;
Cons: Price (although price per wear is great), also no pockets.
Maia Active leggings in MEAVEN (RMB$419)
(I'm so glad I waited like another year before publishing this article lol) because hands down these leggings are my absolute FAVE in terms of comfort and fit. Maia Active is a mainland Chinese brand whose branding is actually so cute and defies all usual expectations of Taobao quality.
I enjoy their other leggings but adore anything in the MEAVEN fabric, which is this cotton-y soft, hugging but not compressive, and just the right amount of stretch material made with Lycra. The fit is made for the Asian breed with suuuuuper high waist that doesn't roll down, for which I adore. The waist design itself is actually better than lulu.
I only placed this as second place because this fabric does not come in the basic no-frills black design which annoys the F outta me. But other than that, the price point is great and value is through the roof. Highly recommend exploring this brand (which is about half the price compared to lulu).
Pros: price, material, value;
Cons: Does start to pill after a while (kind of like align)
Rising Lotus On the go leggings (HK$580)
I recommend these for two reasons. One, Rising Lotus is a local brand and we should support local designers and businesses (when we can and have good reasons to). Two, these have pockets. They also have a high enough waist, the right amount of tightness and comes in modest and versatile colours.
In all seriousness, another good thing is you can try them on at their Central boutique, which makes life a lot easier and prevent any buyer's remorse. More brownie points for you, glen coco.
Pros: They have pockets, good price too;
Cons: They do stretch out after a few months of enthusiastic use.
Girlfriend Collective compressive leggings (US$68)
Okay, so these used to be my holy grail because a) they are made from recycled plastic bottles, and b) their branding is soups cool. But after the initial launch with great quality and not great tailoring, I went for seconds but with came back with even more disappointment. So... all things considered, I will not be recommending them.
Pros: made from recycled plastic bottles/fishnets
Cons: doesn't ship to Asia, fit of fabric is not as great as initial launch
Cotton On Body leggings in general (~HK229)
If you're on a budget, this is the place to be. While I can't vouch for a particular pair or style since their quality changes from batch to batch, it's always a good call to go into the stores from time to time and try things on. When I first started working out, CO Body stuff were my go-to and I still keep a few pieces in regular rotation (often over other more expensive items).
Pros: great prices, cute prints;
Cons: may disintegrate after a while, also the fastest of fast fashion
Sorry guys I got lazy and stole these photos from the brands. I DO NOT OWN ANY OF THE PHOTOS IN THIS POST LA PLZ. Also comment or DM me your fave leggings (!!!) so I can hype up your butt but also try your holy grail for myself. Thankq muchly.
