Art meets city life: Serenity Above Exhibition

22.jpeg

Hey guys! All of us living in Hong Kong will most probably get tired of the bustling and albeit exciting city lifestyle. Or when you're having the longest day at work without any kind of break from the computer screen, all we ever need is really a calming place for the mind to rest. That's why I want to show you guys what I discovered just a couple of days ago... The Serenity Above Exhibition.Located in the heart of office buildings in Sheung Wan and buried in the corner of your usual lift lobbies, it may be quite hard to find. But like all heavens are, once you enter you'll be able to understand why it's done the way it is.With soothing music in the background, I was in a whole new world when I entered the exhibition, and instantly I forgot about the hustle and bustle that was the corporate world a wall apart. The exhibition is two-parts, first the abstract ink paintings by Shanghai born artist Zheng Chongbin, then the stone sculptures by japanese  priest and landscape architect Shunmyo Masuno. The abstract paintings may not make sense at first glance, but curiously, when I was looking at it, I almost saw the way light filters through the darkness, and somehow that gave me some sort of inner peace and concentration. (kind of like meditation?) The stone sculptures on the other hand fortunately comes with a commentary, and expressed how the artist Masuno saw the different elements of life through the natural beauty that is stone. My favourite is definitely the water, through both hard and soft medium, it really shows how water can be something that is both flexible and stubborn, in both shape and volume. For me, when I was studying the pieces, it took me back to my philosophy days in university, and really helped me reflect and refocus. If you have a few more minutes, you can even watch a short clip of the artists talking about their pieces to get a better insight. I definitely recommend heading to the exhibition whenever you're around, even if you just have five minutes left from your lunch break. I'm sure you'll fall in love with the environment and vibe just like I did. If I could, I just might sit and meditate there...Want to go? It goes on from now till 14/9/2014, and is opened from 11am to 7pm all week long. The address is G/F Cosco Tower, Grand Millennium Plaza, 183 Queen's Road Central, Sheung Wan (right beside the lift lobby!) You can also check out more info on their website.

Till next time, ooohmmmm!xx
